Kenny Casimir 4/13/2018 In this episode, many issues are brought to light. It begins with Phyllis being flashed in the parking lot as she makes her way into the building. Everyone reacts and thinks that this is bad except for Creed, who says, “If that’s flashing then lock me up” after Phyllis describes the incident. Creed’s response shows how not all people perceive such a thing as a bad thing. The show chooses not to take sides here by making everyone supportive and concerned. It does an even better job of this when we see what Michael’s response to the incident is. He sees the moment as an opportunity to crack jokes and he makes several inappropriate comments.

Synopsis: The episode starts off with Toby talking to Michael about his excessive use of a homophobic slur and how Oscar has filed a complaint to Toby, since Oscar is in truth gay. This results in everyone in the office changing the way they treat him, and Oscar feeling discriminated against. Meanwhile, corporate sends Jan down to Scranton to talk sense into Michael in order to prevent a lawsuit, and Michael gives Dwight the task of finding out who in the Office is gay. After this, there is an altercation between Angela and Oscar, resulting in Michael to freak out and call everyone into the conference room, where he has Oscar officially come out in a humiliating display for Oscar. Oscar ends up getting a reparations package from corporate for this incident. Joshua Chan
In the episode Diversity Day, Michael Scotts controversial imitation of Chris Rock forces the staff to undergo a racial diversity seminar. A consultant, Mr. Brown arrives to teach the staff about tolerance and diversity, but Michael insists on creating his own diversity seminar that ends up just aggravating both Mr. Brown and the entire office staff. He eventually assigns each staff member an index card with a different race on it, causing tempers to slowly simmer until they finally snap. Meanwhile, Jim struggles to keep hold of a very important contract extension, while Dwight ends up making the sale behind Jim's back. |
